T2 Cool as a Cucumber – 3 Blends in 1, and None of Them Good

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Cool as a Cucumber

Ingredients: White hibiscus, roasted chicory root, cucumber, lemongrass, woodruff, apple, eucalyptus leaves, sweet blackberry leaves, lemon myrtle, lime, melon pieces (melon, sugar, acidifier, citric acid, flavour), flavouring, raspberries, sunflower petals

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: This one has a pleasant aroma.  It’s fragrant and fresh, like lemons and limes.  Already, we anticipated putting this one on ice and drinking it on a hot summer’s day.

Then the flavour…is just STRANGE.  The first sip is so punchy – REALLY bitter (probably from the chicory), with an aftertaste that WON’T. GO. AWAY.  You can’t really discern any of the individual ingredients.  We didn’t feel cooled; we felt annoyed and confused.

This is one of the weirdest drinks we have ever tried.  It’s like they tried to shove three different infusions into one, just to see what happens – and it doesn’t work at all.  There’s far too much going on in one cup.  We’re marking this one AVOID.

Best time of year to drink this: It smells like a summer tea, but it tastes like something you would never drink any day of the year

T2 Bright Night – You’ll Be Brushing Your Teeth to Remove the Taste

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Bright Night

Ingredients: Peppermint, spearmint, lavender, rose petals

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: As the name suggests, this is a night-time tea, designed to soothe the stomach and relax you before bed.  It smells strongly of lemon myrtle, and it even tastes like it – but there’s no lemon flavour in the ingredients list!  Perhaps it’s the way the mints combine with lavender?

Whatever the cause, there’s no denying that artificial lemon taste, which keeps us from liking it.  The spearmint definitely refreshes the mouth, but overall this one isn’t worth the price.  You won’t be eagerly re-brewing it, so you won’t want a whole box of it.  We even think that after you drink it, you’ll be rushing to brush your teeth just to get the taste out of your mouth before you go to bed.

T2 Riotous Rose – Anything but Riotous

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Riotous Rose

Ingredients: Apple, hibiscus, currants, orange peel, rosehips, rose petals, papaya, pineapple, strawberry, raspberries and flavour

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: A rather predictable blend of ingredients clearly designed to target women (though we’re unsure why papaya is in there).  It smells strongly of vanilla, fruit and rose, and it looks very, very red.

As you would expect, the taste is quite tart, but with a vanilla undercurrent; there is a sharpness at the back of the throat.  Thankfully, the rose flavour is quite subtle, which prevents this infusion from tasting like the perfume section of a department store, like some rose teas do.  The drink is also quite creamy.

All in all, it’s pleasant enough, but not our favourite.  It’s neither interesting nor insane; it certainly isn’t ‘riotous’.  It just sits easily in the middle.  We aren’t saying don’t buy it, but there are better women’s / fruit teas on the market for less money.

T2 Ruby Red Rosehip – What Did We Do to Deserve This!?

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Ruby Red Rosehip

Ingredients: Rosehips, hibiscus petals, rose

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: Definitely a women’s tea – but not a good one!  It smells and tastes like Heinz tomato soup, but with a strongly floral aftertaste.  The perfume hangs in your mouth like bad potpourri.  It is both annihilatingly tart and painfully dehydrating.  No, no, no.

To sum it all up, we offered it to a friend and she asked, ‘What did I do deserve THAT!?’  Then she gargled with water.

AVOID.

T2 Shimmer Punch – A Truly Confusing Tea

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Shimmer Punch

Ingredients: Apple, liquorice root, blueberry, chicory, coconut, sweet blackberry leaves, flavour, cornflower petals

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: This is an odd one that smells like toffee (chicory) and tastes tart enough to take you by surprise – perhaps from the apple or blackberry leaves?  There is a sharpness on the top palate, which leaves your mouth feeling stripped, a little numb and a bit tacky.

Interestingly, we think the aftertaste is better than the actual drink.  That’s when the chicory and coconut come through – two flavours you wouldn’t expect to find together in a tisane.  The result is almost creamy, and gently sweet.

The first few sips are truly confusing, but it gets better the more you drink it.  One friend suggested it smelt like caramelised strawberries, and rated it ‘nice’ and ‘drinkable’.  Another friend said she liked it enough, but would have enjoyed it more without that sharpness and the numb feeling she associates with cranberry juice.

Maybe we’ll let you decide on this one.  But we strongly suggest taste-testing it in-store before you take the plunge and commit to spending that money.  That box will be with you a long time.

Best time of year to drink this: Summer, maybe – or autumn

Best time of day to drink this: Afternoons, when you get a sweet tooth

T2 Oolong Toasty Warm – Unsuitable for Vegans

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Toasty Warm

Ingredients: Semi-Fermented Tea, Nougat Bits (Sugar, Glycose Syrup, Almonds, Honey, Egg White, Natural Vanilla) and Flavour

Caffeine Factor: Caffeinated

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: An interesting one that both smells and tastes of caramel.  It’s creamy (because of the nougat) with an almost artificial aftertaste (the flavour).

Ginger Tea liked it, but Three Tulsi didn’t (she hates caramel), so it probably depends on your taste.  It’s also worth noting that it’s not suitable for vegans, as there are egg whites in the nougat.

Just remember that one box gives you up to 120 cups, if you’re regularly re-brewing.  So, you really have to love this one to spend the money.  But if caramel’s your thing, to the point where you don’t mind having it early in the day (because of the caffeine in the oolong tea base), you might want to try this in the winter time.

Best time of day to drink this: Morning or afternoon (maybe as a post-lunch treat)

T2 Botanica – Soup-Sational

T2-LogoBrand: T2

Flavour: Botanica

Ingredients: Hibiscus, Apple, Rosehip, Sultana, Elderberry, Sunflowers, Blue Mallow, Blueberry, Flavour

Caffeine Factor: Caffeine-free

Organic Ingredients: 100%

Price Range: £7.50

Cups Per Box: 40 (approx.)

Review: Sultanas and elderberries in a tisane.  Sigh.

The aroma is highly unpleasant – thick and savoury, like curry.  We can’t figure out where this scent comes from.  Perhaps the sunflowers?  Or the sultanas?  Or those awful footy elderberries?

And then, drinking it….

Three Tulsi thought it tasted like Heinz tomato soup, with added hibiscus.  Yes, we couldn’t have imagined such a thing before, either.  The box says this blend is ‘sensational iced’.  We say, more like soup-sational.

Sultanas aside, the ingredients are the same old things you find in so many other tisanes.  You may as well buy another, cheaper brand.  In the words of Ginger Tea, ‘I’m not offended.  I just don’t see the point.’
